Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty ballets on course for Sheffield
The Russian State Ballet and Opera House visit the city on October 24, 2021, to present Swan Lake at 7.30pm. The company will present Sleeping Beauty that afternoon at 2.30pm in a performance featuring Mariisky State Ballet Theatre.
Romantic ballet Swan Lake tells the tale of a princess who is turned into a swan by a curse that can only be broken by the power of love.

Hide AdBased on the fairy-tale, Sleeping Beauty tells of the Princess Aurora, cursed at her christening by the evil Carabosse to prick her finger one day on a spindle and die. Thanks to the intervention of the Lilac Fairy, she doesn’t die, but sleeps for 100 years and is woken by a Prince’s kiss.
Both ballets feature scores by Tchaikovsky.
