MATLOCK Town have completed their first summer signing with the arrival of Lee Featherstone from Ilkeston Town.
The left-sided wing back was released by the Robins at the end of the season and Matlock have been able to secure his services despite interest from other clubs, including a Conference North outfit.

Matlock Town joint manager Phil Brown said on Th
ursday: "We've been impressed with him the last few times we have played against Ilkeston.

"He's got good pace, he's quite tall for a left back and he's quite physical, and he's also got a great left foot."

Some observers have likened Featherstone's ability to deliver crosses and get goals to that of Paul Riley.

Brown said that Riley, who was Matlock's second highest scorer last season, had proved his versatility and suggested that with the arrival of Featherstone Riley would have a more advanced role down the left or in the centre.

The Gladiators have been looking to strengthen the left-hand side of the squad and also have Welshman Danny Williams and Matty Caudwell to call on along that flank.

According to the Ilkeston Town website, Featherstone started his career as a trainee at Sheffield United, moving to Scunthorpe in 2002, making a total of 35 appearances for the Iron before moving on to Alfreton Town in 2005.

After 61 appearances for the Conference North side, Featherstone joined the Robins in 2006.

Sink or swim?
I use the pool and want it kept open
I do not use the pool but believe the money should be used to keep it open for others
I think the money should be used and put to other use by the council
