MATLOCK Town fans are considering proposals to create a 'wages pool' to give the club a fighting chance of competing with the UniBond League's big spenders.
The idea has been discussed on the club's website forum and a meeting on the issue is to be held at the Gladiators Social Club on Tuesday June 10 at 7.30pm.

Supporters club committee vice-chairman Jason Beaumont said: "This is a great way for us a
ll to make a difference.

"We all know about the clubs who have mega-rich benefactors who pump huge amounts of cash in to bankroll their wage bill, but this way there are several benefits.

"First, no single person has to fund everything.

"Secondly, the club is not at risk of that single source of income walking away.

"It's also worth pointing out for anyone concerned about how they ensure that the money goes 100 per cent to the club that the intention is the pool will be paid by standing order direct to one of the club's bank accounts and will be fully audited and shown as a separate line in the accounts."

Committee treasurer Graham Mumby added: "The money can be any amount, and will ideally be weekly for the whole season which lasts 40 weeks.

"A few people have already unofficially pledged £5 to set the ball rolling, but now we want to get people's views (on the forum) and invite people to a meeting to discuss it.

Today's Vote

Sink or swim?
I use the pool and want it kept open
I do not use the pool but believe the money should be used to keep it open for others
I think the money should be used and put to other use by the council
