THE mother of a footballer who suffered a horrendous injury while playing for Matlock Town this season has thanked the club after fans and players raised £400 for him.
Stef Frost was on loan with the Gladiators when he sustained a double fracture of the right leg just minutes into the Good Friday derby at home to Buxton.

Last week the 18-year-old midfielder received the donation from Town fans, raised following a collection during the Frickley Athletic game on April 5.

Mum Janette told the Mercury: "I just want to thank Matlock Town, the players and supporters for all their messages of good wishes when Stef was in hospital and thank them for the donation."

Frost came to Matlock in March, having spent a couple of months at Gainsborough Trinity, although his opportunites became limited there.

With his club, League Two Notts County, not fielding a reserve side, the move to the Geoquip was a chance to play some football

"He very much enjoyed it there," said Janette.

"They are a good group of lads and I must admit the Matlock managers (Phil Brown and Gareth Williams) have been brilliant with him and kept in touch with him constantly, making sure he's okay, and (management committee member) Peter Bates has been in touch as well."

Frost is now walking without the aid of crutches, but faces another six months on the sidelines and is having to limit training to working on his upper body strength.

Notts County have extended his contract - which was due to run out at the end of the season - until his rehabilitation is complete.

Sink or swim?
I use the pool and want it kept open
I do not use the pool but believe the money should be used to keep it open for others
I think the money should be used and put to other use by the council
