MATLOCK Town have announced a trials date for their U19s and new reserve team squads.
Young players from the age of 15 from across the Dales and beyond are being invited to attend the trial at Cavendish Playing Fields, Matlock, on Monday June 16 at 6.30pm.

Matlock joint-boss Phil Brown said “the carrot’s there” for local youngsters
to bid for a future with the Gladiators, particularly with the relaunch of the reserves, who will play in the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division next season.

“We are delighted that the club is able to get a reserve side,” said Brown.

“Myself and Gripper (management partner Gareth Williams) have felt ever since we took over that we’ve had a very good U19 team with us, but at times when they’ve got to 19 they’ve just not been quite ready for the first team and we’ve lost them elsewhere, so for us it’s great.

“I think the carrot’s there for local youngsters and local talent. If they want to progress to play for Matlock Town the structure is in place to do so now.”

Although formal appointments to manage the reserves are yet to be made, it is understood that Glenn Kirkwood, whose season was curtailed by a foot injury, and Craig Hopkins, who was forced to retire from the game through injury last year, are among the leading contenders.

l MATLOCK Town U19s have a friendly at home to Sheffield Wednesday’s academy side on July 31 (7.30pm).

Sink or swim?
I use the pool and want it kept open
I do not use the pool but believe the money should be used to keep it open for others
I think the money should be used and put to other use by the council
