Madam,

I was most interested to read of the 36 metre long pool of naturally heated water at the New Bath hotel.
David Mitchell is correct in asserting that "Matlock announces itself as a Spa Town".

The new Matlock Town FC shorts have "Matlock Spa" logo on the front.
It seems ironic, then, that you can travel all over the world and find spa's and hydro's in fine hotels and yet there is virtually nothing left of Matlock's once proud heritage, the Hydro, even though we have major courses in tourism at Derby University.

Matlock like Buxton, Bath, Harrogate and Cheltenham was once a pioneering place for hydrotherapy.

The rich and famous came regularly, including Byron, John Ruskin and Ivor Novello.

Today at a time when there is need for diversity and regeneration in Matlock, what is being done for local tourism.
