Madam,

I really hope that Matlock Water Polo Club won't have to fold due to the closure of the Lido pool, as conjectured in last week's Mercury – their match reports are one of the best things in the paper!
Seriously though, how can DDDC contemplate not stumping up the cash to reopen the pool?

Matlock is a former spa town, the district council are based here, and the Olympics are coming to London in 2012 – how can DDDC possibly allow Matlock not to have a decent swimming pool? We need the Lido.

I have been teaching my kids to swim there, and if we were faced with the expense and extra time taken to travel elsewhere – well, it just won't happen.

Please DDDC, don't deny us, other swimmers and the regular clubs the chance to stay fit and have fun in our own town.

Rebecca Morley
Jackson Road
Matlock.
