Try out the New Bath pool

Madam,
While the Lido is closed until after Christmas, Matlock has another excellent and underused pool that could be made available for serious swimmers, canoeists and others, namely the New Bath Hotel Swimming Pool in Matlock Bath.
This 36 metre-long pool is still a genuine open-air "Lido" and the water is at the natural spring temperature of a constant 20 degrees centigrade winter and summer, cool for young children and for casual dippers, but ideal for serious swimming.
Can I suggest that Derbyshire Dales District Council Leisure Department open negotiations to hire the pool for a few hours each day - the cost would be far less than the running costs of the Lido - to allow public swimming to continue in the area.
Access to the pool could easily be arranged without the need to walk through the hotel; there are men's and women's changing rooms.
Such an arrangement would be to the benefit of local people who enjoy swimming and keeping fit during the winter and would also help to keep Matlock's under-utilised "other" public pool open, and life-saving and training staff in work.
Matlock announces itself as a Spa Town, but only at the New Bath is there a genuine Spa pool!
Yours sincerely,
David Mitchell by email
