A swimming club boss has revealed it is losing about £1,000 a month and faces an uncertain future if the Matlock's main pool does not open soon.
Matlock and District Swimming Club has been an integral part of the Lido since it opened in 1938 with achievements that have rivalled those of much larger clubs in the Midland District.

However chairman Steve Sankey said the pool's closure had been a serious blow to the club, which now uses Bakewell pool and St Anselm's.

He added: "We are losing around £1,000 a month.

"We are losing swimmers and it is costing us more to operate because we have to pay to hire two smaller pools. It also costs us more to hire more lifeguards.

"The longer this goes on the worse it becomes for the club."

Mr Sankey thanked Bakewell and St Anselm's for their hospitality but urged council chiefs to open the pool in February.

He added: "We need the pool to be open in February at the latest. If it does not open then the club is in considerable difficulty depending on when it does open."
