First step in major railway plan opens

A new hi-tech building has been officially opened as part of a £15 million rail investment programme at Lafarge Cement's Hope Works.
To mark the significant milestone in the company's programme High Peak MP, Tom Levitt, opened a new central control room and office building at the site.
Lafarge is nearing completion of a major rail infrastructure upgrade which will see it move a large amount of its cement distribution to rail and achieve a reduction in lorry loads of 6,800 each year.
The demolition of the old office building and the construction of this new facility was the first step in the project.
The building has a £1 million state-of-the-art laboratory and £400,000 central control room, from where all parts of the complex cement-making process can be monitored 24-hours a day.
At the opening event MP Tom Levitt unveiled a plaque to commemorate and an impressive limestone sculpture which is located outside the front of the building.
