Mencap supporters say their Darley Dale centre will be unaffected by plans for housing at the town's infant school.
They have rubbished suggestions made by residents at a meeting to discuss the plans for 22 affordable homes on the site that the centre could be disadvantaged or threatened.

Jackie Tunnicliffe, secretary and chairperson of the Mencap group, said: "It would have been nice if people had contacted me first to check the situation before making a comment.

"I have spoken to the council and have assurances that the centre and its access will be totally unaffected. We have been there since 1973 and we will be there a lot, lot longer."

Mencap provides services and support for people with learning disabilities and their families.
