A marathon effort by a Chesterfield fundraising family has given the town’s Ashgate Hospicecare a £3,100 boost amid the coronavirus crisis.

Tim White, whose mum manages the hospice shop, joined his three brothers, dad and nephew in a fundraising challenge which saw them running, walking, cycling and rowing every day for a week.

Tim says the hospice ‘has taken a significant hit on funding’ through charitable events and fundraising being cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.

So the family set themselves the task of completing the 26.2-mile distance of a marathon over a seven-day period, commencing on Monday, May 4.

To achieve the target distance, they were required to cover 3.5 miles every day for a week.

Andy White, Mark Standen and Archie White ran the distance, Jamie White rowed it, Tim walked it and Ryan White cycled the distance.
