Plans have been pitched to bulldoze a Chesterfield pub and replace it with new homes.

The site of the Trumpeter Inn, on Harehill Road, Grangewood, could be transformed into 12 two-bedroom dormer bungalows, under proposals submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council.

Permission was previously granted to redevelop The Trumpeter to create a new community centre for Grangewood in 2015.

Those proposals included a new pub/café-bar and convenience store along with up to four independent retail units.

Planning documents at the time described The Trumpeter as ‘typical of a ‘new estate’ pub built in the late 1960s or early 1970s’.

Reports added: “The property looks rather dated and is regarded by many as unappealing, particularly during the day.”

The plans will be decided upon at a future meeting of the council’s planning committee.
