Frustrated resident calls for repairs to ‘Chesterfield’s worst road surface’

The claim comes from Paul Roe who has been asking Derbyshire County Council to fix the road surface on Dunston Lane, near to his home, since before Christmas.
Dunston Lane is often used by motorists travelling between Sheepbridge and Newbold, and in parts the top layer of the road surface has worn away exposing the hardcore layer beneath.

Hide AdPaul says it has even worn away to such an extent that the road markings outside Dunston Primary and Nursery Academy are no longer visible – describing the road as being in a “shocking condition” which “continues to deteriorate”.
He said: “I genuinely believe it’s currently one of, if not the worst roads in Chesterfield
"The road has just deteriorated over a period of seven or eight months and it has gradually got worse. The council came out at some point and fixed some minor potholes, but it as obvious at that point the problem was lot wider than that.
"It’s like an unadopted road that’s not been maintained in years. Loads of the detritis from the road deteriorating is spilling onto the pavement as well.

After reporting the road surface to the council numerous times, Paul said workers finally came on Tuesday and ‘fixed’ some of the potholes – but he was left “flabbergasted” by the result.
Pictures show that some holes have been covered in a patchwork fashion, with others still visible around the ones that have allegedly been fixed.
Posting on Twitter, another resident said: “Who would think it is possible to actually make it worse.”

Hide AdDerbyshire County Council has now revealed plans to resurface Dunston Lane in June, during the school holidays.
“Plans are in place to resurface the road during the half-term holiday, June 1-4. In the meantime, we’ve carried out temporary repairs on the worst areas,” spokesperson for the authority said.
“As the work is outside a school it needs to take place during the school holidays to minimise disruption. The road will be temporarily closed and there’ll be a diversion in place while the work is carried out.”
