Councillors confirmed that the group – which caused damage to a gate and the fields – had been evicted on Thursday.

“Walkers can access the grounds by turning left and using the footpath past the garages and around the rugby club.
“Apologies for the inconvenience – repairs will be done over the weekend.
“The environmental clean-up will take place on Monday. Please be aware that there is human excrement on the field.”

A memorial event which had been due to be held on the site by Tupton Rugby Club on Saturday has had to be postponed.
There were also reports about Travellers at Thistle Park in Brimington on Thursday night but it is understood they have now moved on.
