Hide AdAaron, of Hadfield, lost his battle with cancer aged 20 on August 10, 2012, the day before Michael’s first event, which was originally to raise funds to buy his terminally ill friend a holiday in the last chapter of his life.
This year, the free extravaganza features the Aaron Sullivan memorial football tournament, live performances from bands, DJs and dancers, a barbecue, cake stalls, a raffle, a tombola, bouncy castles and games.
Michael said he grew up living down the road from Aaron where he lived with his grandmother, Ann Smith, on Mersey Bank Road, adding: “We went to nursery together, we went on family holidays together, we even had a paper round together.”
He said he felt inspired to do something when his friend was diagnosed in January 2011, saying: “It’s a shame it takes something like that to make you want to do something like this.”
