MATLOCK Athletics Club and Cycling Club member Christine Howard opted to compete for her employers, Derbyshire Police, in Sunday's Carsington short-course duathlon, and she certainly put in an arresting performance.
Christine was first female, crossing the line in 37th place overall, having completed the 5km lakeside run, 30km hilly bike ride and another 5km run, in wet, cold and windy conditions, in one hour 34 minutes and 35 seconds.
In fact, she was some two minutes clear of Preson Tri’s Jill McGoo, who had travelled down from Scotland for the event, finishing in 1.36.29.
Matlock ‘super-vet’ Jan Forrester showed the younger girls how it should be done, clocking first in her category,115th overall, in 1.51.12, a six minute gap over second placed supervet Eleanor Robinson, also of Matlock Cycling Club.
Overall winner was Nottingham based Joel Jameson, racing for 2XN TFN, who crossed the line in 1.18.18.
A total of 173 athletes from across the country completed the race, which was organised by Derby-based Punishing Events.
