AFTER last week's blip, Ashbourne Town reasserted themselves as Matlock and District Football league title favourites with a 10-2 win over Hilcote United.
As is so often the case in such games, it was Hilcote who took the lead, Ryan Bailey putting them a goal to the good in the tenth minute.
Five minutes later, however, Sean Millward had equalised, and Barry Swan, John Ford, Millward again and Sean
Coates had Town racing into the lead by half time, but Bailey struck again before the break to make it 5-1.
After the break, however, it was Town who monopolised the scoreboard, with Ford scoring two more to seal his hat-trick, Swan completing his brace from penalty spot, and Stuart Godfrey and Steve Williams getting in the act.
Riddings Rovers can’t be shaken off that easily, however, and they won 4-1 away at AFC Lea Holloway.
Paul Higginbottom had given the the hosts the lead before Shane Buckerfield registered a double, with Chris Turner and Mark Turner each scoring in a blistering eight-minute spell which saw three Riddings goals fly in.
Tibshelf have got their act together after a jittery start and Shirland were their latest victims.
Shirland didn’t help themselves when defender Carl Bradshaw put Sam Fairburn’s free-kick into his own net.
Dean White did rattle the Tibbie bar, but it was soon 2-0 when Brett Gibb ran through the left hand side of midfield and placed a ball for Matt Walsh to pick up and score.
The duo repeated the trick just before the break to effectively end the contest.
Shirland kept up the fight in the second half, but with the Tibbie defence in no mood to yield the hosts began to turn the screw and in the last five minutes Gareth Riley grabbed a fourth goal.
With two wins out of two, Darley Dale came out in confident mood were soon rewarded by a John Dunsby goal, which kept them in the lead up until half time.
But a handball early in the second half gave Kings Arms a penalty and Scott Gregory brought the Crich side level. With all to play for for both sides, it was Darley who regained the advantage with a goal mouth scramble leading to a goal for Aaron O'Neill.
It looked like it was all over for the Kings until, five minutes from time, Darryl Mason levelled.
With Pete Berrisford unable to convert from the cross from Mason a minute before time, the final result stayed at 2-2.
Matlock Town Youth hit South Wingfield Athletic for six, with Jack Barker scoring two and Scott Martin, Paul Bryan, Lee Hickling and Andy Brown getting one apiece. Wingfield did score three of their own through Jonny Hart, Paul Barnes and Mitch Welch.
Duke William are yet to pick up a point. They were defeated 4-0 by Laburnum Saints. Matt Warren opened his account with a brace, while Michael Charlton and Vinnie McClean also found the net.
