I travel South on the A6 each day to work and the new road arrangements add a mile to my return journey: 5 miles a week; 200 miles+ over my working year [ £50 + in petrol]This will apply to anybody living to the East of Crown Square. It is increasing costs to individuals and driving up pollution in Matlock. I also note that congestion on Dale road has increased due to the traffic lights and I have to face an additional queu coming back into Crown Square 'on the loop' [ Starts at Twiggs]. My journey time back from work is significantly increased. This is all for a supermarket of poor specification - decidedly 'pokey', smaller than Sainsburys in Chesterfield and Ripley and definitely not the up market shopping experience which we were promised. The best of a bad job is to restore 2 way traffic on the bridge so that at least travel time and congestion will be reduced and people needing to go through the centre of Matlock can do so with less inconvenience. The new road would then be a useful addition for those wishing to by-pass Matlock or just use the Supermarket. However, the town's traffic system should not have been disrupted just to accomodate a grocery store: a much broader vision was required and one which did not pass additinal costs on to residents simply in order to enable a shop to make profits.

I live on Hurst Farm and work in Belper. I have been travelling to and fro on this route for ten years. I arrive home between 4.30 and 4.35 every night. Recently I came home this way now having to use the new road and the journey took twenty minutes longer. (My tea ended up in the dog) The journey south is no problem as i go over Matlock old bridge. This says to me that the bridge really does need to be two way. It would be lovely to have it pedestrianised but for many local drivers at least, not practical. I wait with interest the next summer bank holiday when our traditional influx of irate tourists arrive from the direction of Alfreton.
